Could an "infrastructure fund" help ease the burden of having 25,000 Amazonians move to Long Island City?

Will we get congestion pricing? It depends on if our local pols are willing to suffer a short-term loss of approval.

So far, City Hall has watched passively as New York State DOT plows forward with a plan to cut off Hunts Point from the Bronx River with new Bruckner ramps. But the mayor still has leverage at his disposal, if he cares enough to use it.

A huge slate of local elected officials led by Mayor de Blasio blasted Senate Republicans for failing to renew and expand the speed camera program, which expires on July 25.

Glick's constituents lost in the state budget, forking over money without getting the traffic reduction benefits of congestion pricing.

State lawmakers have again introduced legislation to classify e-bikes as bicycles, rather than motor vehicles. Council Member Rafael Espinal has authored a resolution in support of the Albany bill, and is calling on the mayor to stop targeting commercial cyclists.

A plan that doesn't toll drivers crossing the East River - drawing a cordon around the heart of Midtown, for instance - might appease congestion pricing opponents like Eastern Queens Assembly Member David Weprin, but it won't deliver the regionally significant traffic reduction that a plan like Move NY would.

De Blasio's proposal for a millionaires tax to fund transit may or may not win him some short-term political points, but it's definitely muddling the message that voters need to hear: Governor Cuomo runs the subways and should pay for fixing them.
