The space between anti-vehicle bollards must be wide enough to accommodate greenway crowds, but the state DOT and NYPD appear to be making other plans without public input.

State DOT is "designing a permanent solution to replace the temporary security measures on the Route 9A bikeway." Construction will begin in the summer and wrap up sometime in 2019.

Several days after dropping long concrete barriers at dangerous angles across the Hudson River Greenway, New York State DOT is finally straightening them out to run parallel with the bike path.

State DOT said it would re-orient jersey barriers to make them parallel with the path, but three days later, many barriers are still straddling the greenway at dangerous angles.

Mayor de Blasio said the placement of concrete barriers on the Hudson River Greenway in response to Tuesday's truck attack needs to change. "I think what was originally put in just in the last day or so needs some revision to make sure people can still ride their bikes," he said.

The preventive measures installed after Tuesday's fatal attack have cut the width of the Hudson River Greenway in half at some locations, pinching the movement of cyclists and pedestrians on a crowded path used by thousands of people each day.

An eight-year Hudson River Greenway detour is set to conclude in less than two months, restoring a direct bike route along West Street near the World Trade Center site.

The state broke ground this month on a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge linking West Harlem with the Hudson River Greenway.

The walls are closing in on people who walk or bike on the Van Cortlandt Park greenway in the Bronx. A state Department of Transportation highway construction project has narrowed the shared bicycle and pedestrian path to just four feet, while leaving adjacent car lanes and a golf cart path almost entirely untouched.
