Monday Headlines: Bussin’ With The Boys Edition
Albany is on the cusp of a tantalizing revitalization, and $400 million in state funding is burning a hole in the pockets of planners and politicians alike. With that comes concrete suggestions, such as turning a downtown eyesore into a new bus terminal.
That plan appeared to have supporters, but a swift community outcry has officially halted Albany County’s plans to turn the dilapidated site at 106 S. Pearl Street into the capital city’s new landing spot for bus travelers.
Its new fate? If a new buyer for the parcel doesn’t emerge, Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said it would likely serve as overflow parking for nearby MVP Arena. May detractors remember this saga the next time they have loved ones visit them in Albany. The current bus terminal evokes feelings of urban decay and former Eastern Bloc nations.
At least the next time Albany dwellers catch a Phish concert, parking will be marginally easier.
