Monday Headlines: Home Stretch Edition
It’s time to “trust the shaded boxes.”
Today marks the final week of the state Legislature’s 2026 session. There’s a certain finality to that outside of what will be a chaotic mad dash toward the end.
Albany stalwarts like Deputy State Senate Majority Leader Mike Gianaris (D-Queens), a prominent voice on fare-free buses, will depart. And Assembly Transportation Chair Bill Magnarelli (D-Syracuse) faces a test of his electoral prowess in the form of a progressive primary challenger.
Aside from the shift in focus from government to politics, the particular band of chaos we ge this week will be worth watching. Will we see environmental reform legislation die on the Assembly floor in the middle of the night? Or will the second floor drop another bomb on Albany, ala delaying congestion pricing.
Only time will tell.
