The streets around NYC schools would be safer this year if not for State Senate Republicans and Simcha Felder, who rejected legislation to double the number of school zones where Albany allows the city to place speed enforcement cameras.

The State Senate bill to expand New York City’s speed camera program did not pass in part because of opposition from Brooklyn rep Simcha Felder, according to a Senate source familiar with the negotiations.

Felder has introduced a bill that would raise the speed limit on Ocean Parkway to 30 miles per hour, exempting the street from NYC’s citywide 25 mph limit.
