Budget negotiations are progressing somewhere…Maybe there will be a spending plan ready next week, maybe there won’t. Legislative leaders sure aren’t making any promises. While they dilly-dally on New York’s future, Streetsblog looked at how they could have handled car insurance far differently this year. There was also a blink-and-you-miss-it LIRR strike that stretched into Monday evening. The MTA and the rather well-compensated Long Island union workers left us in suspense after a near-deal fell apart this weekend. In the end, each made concessions on work rules and pay increases.
This won’t come as any surprise to regular readers: Streetsblog got some action. State DOT is backing off on a highway expansion in the Bronx after our coverage revealed the project’s drawbacks and activists applied pressure.
