The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog

God knows when the budget is going to be done, but Streetsblog is keeping tabs as always. What we do know is that Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is starting to feel the pressure over his lack of support for the life-saving Stop Super Speeders Act. The legislation would cap the speeds of repeat reckless drivers through the installation of a device in their cars. It has wide support, and pressure is growing on the Bronx lawmaker to stop dragging his feet.
The state Legislature is still far apart from the governor on car insurance, but she has at least started to negotiate, even if her compromises still leave some hard pills to swallow for lawmakers and crash victims. Some of them have rebuked her publicly as her administration insists that no one is losing legal rights through her proposed changes.
At least some things in this world still make sense: The MTA and Amtrak still hate each other’s guts. Catch up on all this and more at Streetsblog.
