Cuomo has been governor going on seven years. He's had more than enough time to assess the problems afflicting the transit system and work on solutions. But as the core transit system declines, Cuomo continues to fixate on shiny mega-projects.

Addressing Transportation Alternatives' Vision Zero Cities conference this morning, Mayor de Blasio restated his intent to expand the city's speed enforcement camera program this year, which requires approval from Albany.

The family of Lauren Davis is reeling after a judge at the state Department of Motor Vehicles declined to take action against the motorist who struck and killed her on Classon Avenue last year. Davis's mother, sister, and brother traveled from California to attend the hearing, and said they had been told by the NYPD Highway Patrol detective investigating the crash that he would also be there. He never showed up.

The Albany budget deal reached over the weekend makes it official: Governor Cuomo has broken his promise to make up for cuts to the MTA payroll tax in 2011. While the state shrinks its commitment to he MTA, other Cuomo economic development priorities are moving ahead, including an expansion of the Van Wyck budgeted for $564 million.

E-bikes are everywhere on NYC streets, and delivery workers, especially, rely on them. But they have never been legal in New York despite 2002 federal legislation classifying electric bikes of certain speeds as regular bicycles.

New York derives much of its economic strengths from the city's subways and buses. Instead of using his budget to ensure that these systems can continue to support jobs and growth, Cuomo is drawing down support for transit so he can make splashy announcements about airports, highways, and convention centers.
