Monday Headlines: Takeover Edition
This ain’t Philly, twin.
Which is to say, when ATVs and dirt bikes hold “street takeovers” in New York, and specifically Long Island, people are annoyed and cops at least attempt to take action. (Newsday, News 12 Long Island)
More than 200 riders deluged over State Route 347 while performing tricks and speeding excessively. When police intervened, they turned up a few weapons in addition to the reckless motorists.
Street takeovers can take a few forms. Sometimes it’s the long-range trick riding on display this weekend. Other times it’s a crowd huddled around a modded-out Honda Civic doing burnouts. In either case, it’s illegal. But the allure of car culture and the strange community it fosters appears too intoxiating for people to give up.
